Water Quality Lab recognized for its achievements to protect environmental and public health

As the primary wholesale water supplier in Santa Clara County, Valley Water is dedicated to assuring a reliable supply of safe, clean drinking water to our community.

To help support this mission, Valley Water built the Water Quality Lab in 2008. The state-of-the-art lab is housed in a building designed to maintain the specialized equipment necessary to meet increased water-quality testing needs, respond to emerging contaminants and react to more stringent water quality standards. The rigorous testing performed by the lab ensures that the treated water we deliver consistently meets or exceeds all applicable water quality regulatory standards.

The Water Quality Lab recently received recognition from the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) for its proactive implementation of The TNI standard. The recognition comes after completing the lab’s on-site audit, where the program commended Valley Water for its commitment to protecting environmental and public health by producing reliable data.

Starting in January 2024, new regulations will be implemented that will require adopting new standards. The regulations will establish strict requirements for laboratory documentation practices and the quality and traceability of equipment and supplies. Additionally, there will be new requirements for ongoing staff training and competence to ensure successful performance of lab testing.

The Water Quality Lab is also accredited to test 29 PFAS compounds. Visit our FAQs to learn more about Valley Water’s PFAS efforts.

Valley Water’s proactive approach to adopting new regulatory standards is a testament to the outstanding work performed by our team of chemists, microbiologists and support staff to ensure safe, clean drinking water for Santa Clara County residents.
