Join us at a Virtual Public Scoping Meeting and Open House for the proposed expansion of Pacheco Reservoir

Northern California is experiencing a dry start to this rainfall season, with moderate drought conditions existing across Santa Clara County. We don’t know how much more rain we will receive this season, or how long the drought conditions will last.

The changing climate and extreme weather pose challenges to Santa Clara County’s water supply. But Valley Water is committed to preparing for future wet and dry seasons to ensure a more reliable water supply for Santa Clara County.

One project currently being evaluated is the proposed expansion of Pacheco Reservoir in southern Santa Clara County. A partnership with the San Benito County Water District and Pacheco Pass Water District, the project will increase the reservoir’s capacity from 5,500 acre-feet to up to 140,000 acre-feet, enough water to supply up to 1.4 million residents for one year during an emergency.

Valley Water issued a Notice of Preparation for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project (Project) in 2017 and solicited public scoping comments at that time. Valley Water is now inviting you to join us at one of two virtual public scoping meetings to learn the latest news about the scope and content of the Project EIR that Valley Water is preparing. We’re encouraging the public and agencies to provide any additional comments on the scope and content of the EIR. The comments must be submitted in writing as described below.

We hope you will join us at one or both meetings:

The meetings will include a detailed presentation, open house and an opportunity for you to ask questions. Valley Water will stream the meetings on Facebook Live: www.facebook.com/SCVWD. Video recordings of the meetings will be posted on the project web page at www.valleywater.org/pachecoexpansion.

The presentation has been posted at www.valleywater.org/pachecoexpansion.

Valley Water is accepting written comments regarding the scope and content of the environmental impact report through March 12, 2021 at 5 p.m. Comments can be submitted via email to PachecoExpansion@valleywater.org or mailed to:

Santa Clara Valley Water District
Attn: Todd Sexauer
5750 Almaden Expressway
San Jose, CA 95118

Please note you don’t have to attend the meetings to submit written comments.

We hope you will join us.
