District hosts third annual Landscape Summit

Thursday, Feb. 1 was a beautiful day for gardening.  But instead of working outdoors, more than 90 landscape professionals were gathered in the Santa Clara Valley Water District boardroom to learn about sustainable landscaping and how it relates to water use in our valley.

This third annual Landscape Summit, hosted by the water district’s Landscape Committee, featured speakers such as water district Board Chair Richard Santos, who welcomed participants; Garth Hall, Deputy Operating Officer, who gave the State of the Valley’s Water update; and Keynote Speaker Kevin Breen, from La Rinconada Country Club, who spoke about how he reduced the water use at their golf course by 40 percent, in part with the use of drone technology.

One of the highlights of the summit was a panel of landscape experts who discussed how they incorporated water efficient practices and technology at various sites, contributing to the community’s overall 21 percent water use reduction in 2017.

Watch some of the highlights from the summit in the video below.  For more videos of our guest speakers and presentation materials, visit our landscape summit page.
